Community Changemakers

Evolving into Action

We envisage a world where people are empowered to create the change they want to see in the world.

The Community Changemakers Programme supports people to instigate positive changes in their communities and surrounding environment.

About Community Changemakers

We support people and communities to evolve into action by creating community led projects for change

The Community Changemakers Programme features:

Sustainability - explore interconnected environmental, social and economic challenges in your community, focusing on relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Community led projects - create and implement your own custom project to help address an issue relevant to you and your community.

Hands-on learning - through practical and interactive activities, learn about:

  • Your own values, strengths and leadership potential

  • Techniques to support emotional and spiritual wellness

  • Sustainability issues from environmental, cultural, social and economic aspects and possible solutions

  • Designing, planning and managing a project to address an issue important to you and your community

Tailored workshops - an 8-step programme delivered over a series of workshops, which can be adapted to suit your needs. On-going support can also be provided to assist with long-term project implementation.

Flexible delivery - workshops are ideally face-to-face, but can also be provided online. We are based in Brisbane, but are keen to work with groups across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Suitable for:

  • School groups

  • Community groups

  • Youth groups

Our Philosophy

Evolving into Action

We envisage a world where people are empowered to create the change they want to see in the world. We see communities playing a pivotal role in instigating change to help solve complex interconnected social, environmental and economic challenges in their local area.

We believe that the well-being of people and the planet are intricately linked. To create positive change, we need leaders that prioritise the health of all living things.

So, we've designed our programme to help build strong individual, community and nature relationships.

We cultivate conscious people who are:

- confident, curious and caring

- connected to their community

- knowledgeable about sustainability

Who's the Sustainable Brains Behind Community Changemakers?

Originating from Aotearoa New Zealand, Founder and Director Aleisha Keating is a sustainability educator and environmental scientist, adventurer, nature-lover and yoga teacher. Aleisha believes that sustainability is dependent upon better understanding ourselves and connecting with nature and others.

Aleisha Keating

Aleisha's passion for people and the environment has led her to work on a diversity of projects encompassing natural resource management, climate change, renewable energy, social action and food waste in Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Thailand and the Pacific. She is eager to share her global experience and knowledge with others to help facilitate positive change in local communities. She thrives off supporting others to reach their potential, helping people to learn about themselves and the world around them.

Aleisha holds a Master of Science (Distinction) in Education for Sustainability, a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) in Physical Geography and is a Practitioner Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment. Aleisha is also a certified yoga teacher and writes on sustainability and ethical issues on her blog www.anethicalyarn.com.

Aleisha has volunteered with OzHarvest for over 5 years now, and shares our passion for protecting our planet by reducing food waste, and inspiring others to do the same. While supporting us in hands-on education roles, like speaking on behalf of OzHarvest at schools and community groups about our work, and sharing tips for reducing food waste in our day to day lives, Aleisha's knowledge of sustainability issues and ability to provide useful behavioural change actions has amplified our message. She is a motivated sustainability educator and advocate and an asset to our team!
